If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then one of the Computer Information Systems (CIS) programs at Middle Georgia Technical College may be right for you! The opportunities are endless in the CIS programs at MGTC and students can take a variety of courses including: computer programming, personal computer maintenance and repair, home/business networking, office technologies, website design and graphics, and multimedia. Students in CIS programs may graduate with a diploma or Associate of Applied Science degree in: Internet Specialist—Web Site Design; Computer Support Specialist; or Networking Specialist. The CIS department also offers a variety of certificate programs including: MOS Cert Prep, Cisco Specialist; Computer Repair Tech; and Windows Specialist.

Job Outlook:

According to the Department of Labor, Computer Information Systems careers are predicted to be among the fastest growing occupations in Georgia over the next decade. CIS program graduates at MGTC are prepared for a variety of careers including: website designer, network administrator, computer programmer, office specialist, PC repair technician, network installation & configuration technician, and computer help desk assistant. Entry-level salaries in the Middle Georgia area range from $27,000 - $34,000.

Associate Degrees

IT Entrepreneurship

The Information Technology Entrepreneurship Associate of App!ied Science degree program offers a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for careers as business owners in the field of Information Technology. The program emphasizes specialized training in home and corporate networking; computer maintenance; operating system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting; information security; and web site design. The program also emphasizes business-based skills including: small business management; marketing; and accounting. These skills represent the subset of knowledge expected from graduates in the Middle Georgia Technical College service area. The program graduate receives an Associate of Applied Science degree and is employable as an information technology specialist, help desk support specialist, network installation specialist, computer repair technician, or network administrator. The program graduate also possesses the skills required for establishing an information technology based business.

Cisco Networking Specialist

The CISCO Networking Specialist technical certificate of credit program provides a complete study of data communications, Local Area Networks (LANs), and Wide Area Networks IANs) from the fundamental concepts to LAN and WAN design. It introduces all topics associated with networking, including protocols, standards, and topologies and places an emphasis on router configuration. The program uses the authorized CISCO CCNA (Certified CISCO Network Administrator) curriculum to prepare the students for the CCNA examination upon completion.

Degree Types

At MGTC we offer three different levels of credit programs:

Associate Degree
Middle Georgia Technical College offers associate level degrees. They usually take between 1.5 and 2 years to complete. AAS programs include English and Math courses that can transfer to other four year institutions in the state.
Diploma
Middle Georgia Technical College's Diploma Level programs usually take between 1 and 1.5 years to complete and include basic courses, as well as specific technical or occupational courses to prepare students for the workforce.
Certificate
Technical Certificates of Credit (TCCs) usually take about 2 quarters (half a year) to complete and generally focus on very specialized knowledge. These programs teach students specific skills that they can apply in the workforce.
