Machine Tool
Did you know that Machinists are predicted to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the next decade? The Machine Tool Technology program at MGTC prepares students for employment in the machine tool field such as tool making, aircraft fabrication, automobile and motorcycle design, fabrications, and customizing.
Training in the Machine Tool Technology program goes beyond the classroom. Students put their skills to work in MGTC’s state-of-the-art training facility. The environment is clean and climate controlled to ensure dimensional accuracy to the 4th decimal place! Students learn manual lathe, mill and grinder set-up and operation. As the course progresses, students use CAD/CAM Design systems to cut, shape, and fabricate metals, plastics, and other materials. Day, evening, and some online courses are available!
Job Outlook:
Close to 1,000 new machinist jobs will be available in Georgia over the next decade! Career opportunities are available in: Government agencies, machine shops, aircraft manufacturing, automotive custom design shops, and manufacturing firms. Entry level salaries in the Middle Georgia area range from $25,000 - $28,000.

The Machine Tool Technology program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the machine tool technology field. The program emphasizes a combination of machine tool theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive a Machine Tool Technology diploma and have the qualifications of a machine tool technician.

The Computer Numerical Control Specialist Technical Certificate of Credit program is a sequence of courses which prepares students for careers in the machining industry with a focus on NC/CNC technology. The program emphasizes automated machine techniques used in aircraft production. Graduates are qualified for employment as CNC Machine Tool Operators.

Degree Types
At MGTC we offer three different levels of credit programs:
- Associate Degree
- Middle Georgia Technical College offers associate level degrees. They usually take 2 years to complete. AAS programs include general education (core) courses that may transfer to University System of Georgia schools in our state.
- Diploma
- Middle Georgia Technical College's Diploma Level programs usually take between 1 and 1.5 years to complete and include basic courses, as well as specific technical or occupational courses to prepare students for the workforce.
- Certificate
- Technical Certificates of Credit (TCCs) usually take about 2 quarters (half a year) to complete and generally focus on very specialized knowledge. These programs teach students specific skills that they can apply in the workforce.
