Two Dental Hygiene Students win Emilie Fisher Foundation Scholarships

Two Dental Hygiene students recently were selected as scholarship recipients from the Emile Fisher Foundation for Dental Education in Georgia. The Emile T. Fisher Foundation for Dental Education in Georgia (formerly the Georgia Dental Education Foundation) seeks to have a positive impact on the quality of dental services in Georgia. Through assuring there is a continuous flow of qualified candidates entering the dental profession by awarding scholarships and grants to deserving individuals in the dental and dental hygiene fields, the Foundation meets this goal.

Wendy Bloodworth and Alyssa Shaw each will receive a $500 check for their achievements. Wendy, who lives in Macon, is a full-time student and a full-time mom, with two sons—Alex, 9, and Blake, 6. Upon graduation, she would like to pursue a career in a periodontal office, which handles more serious conditions of the mouth. Alyssa, who lives in Warner Robins, is a full-time student and works two jobs. After she finishes school, she would like to work at a local dental office in Macon and continue her education in the dental field. Both students plan to purchase a second set of dental instruments with their scholarship money.

The Dental Hygiene program at MGTC is seven quarters in length and is quite costly. In addition to the cost of tuition, students must pay close to $4,000 out-of-pocket toward their program’s expenses. Both students are relieved and excited to receive the scholarship.
