MGTC CIS Students Compete in National Competition

Warner Robins - Members of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) at Middle Georgia Technical College (MGTC) recently competed in the 13th Annual National Collegiate Conference in Memphis, Tenn. Over 750 information technology students and professionals from colleges and universities around the country participated in the three-day conference.

Representing Middle Georgia Technical College at the conference were Computer Information (CIS) Students DJ Aaron , Joshua Brooks, and Judith Bruce all of Warner Robins; Cathy Dean of Perry, and Carrie Morris of Bonaire.

Aaron, a Networking Specialist student, competed in the PC Troubleshooting contest. After contending with 133 other students from both two and four year colleges, he was among the top ten and made it to the final round of judging and ended up receiving an honorable mention for his skills. Aaron also competed in the Network Design competition and serves as the president for the MGTC AITP chapter.

Brooks, who also serves as the local AITP secretary, competed in the PC Troubleshooting Part I and Part II competitions, as well as the Network Design contest. Bruce and Dean competed in the Microsoft Office Solutions contest, and Morris competed in Network Design.

Shawna Early, MGTC Computer Information Systems instructor and AITP advisor, was very proud of the students who chose to participate in the competition.

"We give many thanks to all the instructors in the CIS department who educate our students everyday on how to become IT Professionals," said Early. "This is a very competitive contest and all of our students should be commended for a job well done. We are all very proud of our students."

The five MGTC students competed with peers from some of the top four-year schools in the nation, including Purdue University, University of Mississippi, Central Michigan University, Texas State University, and Georgia State University. Other two-year schools from the Technical College System of Georgia participating in the contest included Chattahoochee Technical College, DeKalb Technical College, and Coosa Valley Technical College.

Over all, the Association of Information Technology Professionals currently has over 2,700 student members through a network of 200 student chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada.
