MGTC's Ncube Wins Inaugural Danyel B. Allen Scholarship

Warner Robins - Simame Ncube, a Practical Nursing student at Middle Georgia Technical College, was recently presented with the first ever Danyel B. Allen Scholarship at the Winter Quarter Awards Ceremony held in the college's auditorium. Dr. Gerri Sorrell, vice president for Academic Affairs, made the presentation.

The Danyel B. Allen scholarship was established by and is funded by MGTC's first lady, Danyel Allen, who earned a nursing diploma from a Georgia technical college.

"There were many people in my life who supported me while I studied to become a nurse," said Allen. "This is just my way of giving back and helping others."

To qualify for the Allen scholarship, the applicant must be a Practical Nursing student and be enrolled in clinical courses. As part of the application, the student must submit a statement of economic need and a statement detailing how the scholarship will help them reach their educational goals. An instructor recommendation is also required.

Ncube, who is a resident of Macon, received the scholarship based on her academic record. She recently completed her coursework and clinical rotations for the Practical Nursing program. During the awards ceremony, she was also awarded her pin by Practical Nursing instructors Anne Sartain and Dee Moehlenkamp, signifying her graduation from MGTC. She will now take the licensing exam to earn her Practical Nursing license.

Scholarships are awarded each quarter by the Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation to recognize the diligence and academic achievement of MGTC students. Students are invited to apply for scholarships quarterly.

The Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the College and its students by supplementing available state resources with private funding to help further the College's mission of contributing to the economic and educational development of the community. A large portion of funds raised by the Foundation are earmarked specifically for student scholarships. All donations made to the MGTC Foundation are tax-deductible.
