Middle Georgia Technical College, Houston Healthcare Strengthen Longstanding Partnership

Warner Robins - In continued support of Middle Georgia Technical College (MGTC), Houston Healthcare (HHC) has presented MCTG with a one-time grant to help support the Allied Health programs at the College. This generous grant is another show of support and commitment to the mission of the College by Houston Healthcare as both organizations continue to work together to strengthen their longstanding partnership, as well as the community.

During the November meeting of the Hospital Authority of Houston County, Houston Healthcare CEO Skip Philips presented a motion to invest in future employees of HHC by providing a one-time grant to the college in support of MGTC's Allied Health programs, including Practical Nursing, Radiology, Medical Assisting, and Surgical Technology. The motion was approved by the Hospital Authority.

Members of the Hospital Authority include Chairman Sonny Watson; Vice Chairman Daniel A. Deighton, MD; Jack Ragland; Trudie Warren; Larry Warnock; Ed Dyson; Horatio V. Cabasares, MD; Glynn Greenway; and Fred Graham.

Since 1973, the mission of MGTC has been to contribute to the development of the local community by providing quality technical education and services to the citizens of Middle Georgia in order to make available a skilled and well-trained workforce. Houston Healthcare is a strong supporter of this mission.

This partnership between HHC and MGTC provides a benefit for both organizations. Many students who train in MGTC's Allied Health programs benefit from Houston Healthcare by participating in clinical rotations at Houston Medical Center or Perry Hospital. In addition, MGTC provides HHC with a large pool of prospective employees from which to choose.

Many graduates of the MGTC Allied Health programs become full-time employees of Houston Healthcare after completing their education at MGTC. In addition to Allied Health graduates, Houston Healthcare also employees MGTC Accounting, Medical Coding, Medical Billing, Information Technology, and Industrial Systems graduates.

"HHC has a longstanding commitment to community service and education, as evidenced by its support of MGTC and other educational institutions," said Dr. Ivan Allen, president of MGTC. "MGTC commends the leadership of Houston Healthcare for recognizing that a safe and healthy community requires a collaborative approach. We could not be the community resource we are today without the partnership of organizations like Houston Healthcare."

Middle Georgia Technical College offers certificates, diplomas, and degrees in over 100 areas of study, including Allied Health. Students gain hands-on training, as well as traditional classroom theory in all programs.
