Charles Stone Joins MGTC as Hawkinsville Center Director
Warner Robins - Charles E. Stone of Hawkinsville has joined the staff of Middle Georgia Technical College as Director of Operations for the Sam Way, Sr. Hawkinsville Workforce Development Center. He will be responsible for overseeing the credit programs offered at the center and the day-to-day operations of the Hawkinsville facility.
Stone has over 40 years of experience in the field of education. Teaching his first five years at The Darlington School in Rome, he joined Albany Junior College as an Assistant Professor of Developmental Studies in 1968. After serving as Headmaster at Windsor Park Academy in Albany, he joined Clayton State University as an Assistant Professor in 1976. Since then, he has served as Principal for Blackshear Trail Elementary in Cordele and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Federal Programs for Pulaski County Schools.
In 1990, Stone joined Middle Georgia Technical College as Vice President for Instructional Services. He left the college in 1996 to become an English instructor at Perry High School. He later served part time as the Coordinator for Media Services for the Houston County Board of Education from 2002-2004.
Stone attended the University of Georgia to earn both a Bachelor's of Science in Secondary English in 1962 and Master's of Education in Reading Education in 1968. He later attended Valdosta State University to earn an Education Specialist degree in Educational Administration and Curriculum in 1990.
He is member of the Hawkinsville/Pulaski Historical Society, the Hawkinsville Urban Redevelopment Agency, the Hawkinsville/Pulaski Arts Council, the Pulaski County Bicentennial Committee, and the Friends of the Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra. He and his family are also communicants of St Luke's Episcopal Church. He has been married to the former Irene Norred since 1959, and they have three grown children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
"We are so fortunate to have this first-class facility in our community," said Stone. "MGTC's presence is a tremendous asset and can really be an outstanding drawing card for the entire area. I'm very excited to have this opportunity!"
The Sam Way, Sr. Hawkinsville Workforce Development Center offers credit programs, Adult Education classes, and continuing education courses. Beginning Summer Quarter, the Center will offer three new credit programs-Aircraft Structural, Commercial Truck Driving, and Patient Care Assisting. Currently, all general education courses are offered in Hawkinsville, as well as courses in Criminal Justice, Computer Repair Technician, and Certified Manufacturing Specialist.
