New Officers Named to MGTC Board of Directors

Warner Robins - The Middle Georgia Technical College Board of Directors has elected new officers for 2008-2009. Dollie Horton of Fort Valley has been named chair and Tom McMichael of Warner Robins will serve as vice-chair.

Horton, who is recently retired as the Public Service Center Director for Fort Valley State University (FVSU), has been a partner with Middle Georgia Technical College for many years and has served on the Board of Directors since 2002. She is a certified board member by the Technical College Directors Association and has worked with the MGTC Adult Education program in Peach County. She also currently serves on the MGTC Foundation Board of Trustees.

She began her career with FVSU in the areas of Development and College and Community Relations. She later moved on to work with Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at Robins Force Base in 1980. In 1982, she became the first black female Georgian to own and operate a radio station, WXKO.

After returning to FVSU in 1999, she supervised over $3 million in funding from the United States Department of Agriculture as the Public Service Center Director. She also garnered and managed over $1.5 million in grant funding from other agencies to provide day-to-day operation for public service, community and academic outreach, housing, and economic development.

Horton serves as a commissioner for the City of Fort Valley Utilities and was chosen as a Presidential Elector for the State of Georgia. She is married to Cornelious Horton, Jr. They have two sons and two grandchildren.

McMichael, who has served on the MGTC Board of Directors since 2005, is also a certified board member. He retired as City President of Bank of America and has over 40 years of experience in the banking industry. He also served his country for six years in the Army, active duty, and in the Reserves.

He currently serves as a Commissioner for Houston County and is chairman of the Middle Georgia Regional Development Corporation. He is a founding director of Atlantic Southern Bank (ASB) and chairman of ASB's Mid-South Region Board. He also serves on the boards of the 21st Century Partnership, the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia, the Middle Georgia Community Action Agency, and the Museum of Aviation, among others.

In the past, he has also served as president of the Association of County Commissioners and chairman for the United Way and the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce. He is a past member and officer of several organizations, including the Museum of Aviation Foundation, the Carl Vinson Chapter of the Air Force Association, the Optimist Club, and the Warner Robins Bulldog Club.

He is married to the former Dianne Holland and they have two children and three grandchildren.

The Middle Georgia Technical College Board of Directors is a group of community and business leaders from each of the four counties in MGTC's service area, including Dooly, Houston, Peach, and Pulaski. This group, known as the Local Board, assists MGTC's governing board, the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia. In addition to reviewing and approving the local policies, procedures, and educational programs of the College, the local directors also serve as advocates for Middle Georgia Technical College.
