MGTC Paralegal Studies Advisory Council Meets

Warner Robins - Members of the advisory council for the Paralegal Studies program at Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins met recently for the purpose of discussing changes and improvements in the program.

After a brief introductory session, Marion Crombie, Paralegal Studies program instructor, gave advisory council members an overview of the curriculum and what students learn when they enroll in her program. They also discussed needs of the program such as updating and expanding the law library.

Advisory council members represent local business and industry that have a direct interest in the program they are involved with. Members volunteer their time to help MGTC stay abreast of constant changes in the workplace.

Members present at the advisory meeting were Mary Ann Gallaher, a paralegal for the US Department of Justice in Macon; J. Hatcher Graham, attorney; Jay Walker, attorney and Houston County Commissioner; Jason Ashford, chief assistant for the District Attorney's office; and Kathleen Rizer, Paralegal Studies student representative, who is employed at the Houston County District Attorney's Office.

In addition to Crombie, other MGTC faculty and staff present at the meeting included Bobby Brown, adjunct instructor for the Paralegal Studies program; Lynn Southerland, General Education Division Chair; Tiffany Walker, dean of Instruction for Business, Technology, and Services; Bruce Foster, Personal and Public Services Division Chair; and Cheryl Stelk, director of Advancement for MGTC.

The general purpose of the advisory councils at MGTC is to advise and assist program personnel and the college in training and preparing students to better serve the needs of business and industry in MGTC's four-county service area, as well as statewide. The Council serves as a link between the workplace and the college.

The Paralegal Studies program at Middle Georgia Technical College offers day, evening, and online classes. For more information on this program, call Instructor Marion Crombie at 478.988.6800 ext. 4060 or log on to www.middlegatech.edu.
