Harrell, Roberts Named First-Ever Mr. & Ms. MGTC

Warner Robins - For the first time in the College’s history, Middle Georgia Technical College has named a Mr. & Ms. MGTC. The Mr. & Ms. MGTC Harvest Pageant, sponsored by the Student Leadership Council, was won by Harry Harrell and Barbara Roberts. First runners-up were Sam Waterman and Antonia Smith-Lindjeck.

Participants in the pageant, which was held November 24th in the College's Auditorium, competed in business and formal wear categories, interview, and charitable fundraising. Eleven students participated in the event as representatives of the various clubs and organizations on campus.

Out of the eleven participants, Barbara Roberts and Harry Harrell emerged as Mr. & Miss MGTC. Both are members of the Non-Traditional Student Association (NTSA). Roberts is a Practical Nursing student and serves as the communications director for the NTSA. Harrell is a Computer Information Systems student and serves as president of the NTSA. He is a member of the Student Ambassadors organization and Phi Beta Lambda (PBL).

First runners-up in the pageant were Sam Waterman, an Aviation Maintenance Technology student, and Antonia Smith-Lindjeck, an Early Childhood Care and Education student. Waterman serves as president of the Student Leadership Council, reporter for Phi Beta Lambda, and is a member of Skills USA and Student Ambassadors. Smith-Lindjeck serves as the local Phi Beta Lambda vice-president and state reporter for Georgia PBL. She is also the treasurer for Kappa Omega and is a member of the Student Ambassadors.

Other participants in the pageant were Judith Bruce, Chelsea Childs, Maricel Corpuz, Tiffany Dukes, Stormy Rogers, Nickalas Manson, and Laurence Curtis Thomas, Jr.

Co-emcees for the event were MGTC student Tremayne Heckle, an accounting student and member of Phi Beta Lambda, and Early Clover, a Las Vegas entertainer.

In addition to serving as co-emcee, Clover also performed several musical selections during the pageant's intermission. He is the lead singer for Cornell Gunter's Coasters and performs nightly at the Planet Hollywood Hotel in Las Vegas. Clover, who is a native of Dublin, also performed at President Bill Clinton's inauguration in 1996.

Several community members volunteered their time to serve as judges for the event. Judges for the pageant were Jasper Foust of Macon, director of the Georgia Fatherhood program; Lydia McClendon of Dublin, retired educator; and Therisa Patton of Hawkinsville, special events coordinator for the Hawkinsville-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.

Student Leadership Council advisors Debbie Price and LaToya Lawson worked with many other MGTC staff and faculty members to make this event a huge success. The College is looking forward to making this an annual event. For more information on Middle Georgia Technical College's programs and services, call (478) 988-6800 or log on to www.middlegatech.edu.
