Nikita Griffin Named EAGLE Winner for Middle Georgia Technical College

Warner Robins - Nikita Griffin of Vienna has been named the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Winner for Middle Georgia Technical College (MGTC). Griffin will represent MGTC at the EAGLE Leadership Institute in February 2010 in Atlanta.

Griffin enrolled in the MGTC Adult Education program at the Vienna site in May 2008. Since beginning her journey toward earning her GED, Griffin has successfully passed one part of the GED test and is presently concentrating on studying to complete the rest of the GED. Griffin is the daughter of Frankie and Barbara Almond. She has a nine year old son, Tyler Taylor.

Ethel Ross, chair for the EAGLE program at MGTC and instructor at MGTC's Vienna Adult Education Site, is Griffin's nominating instructor.

"Nikita is a caring and sensitive person," said Ross. "She is always concerned about her fellow classmates. She has the ability to become the EAGLE delegate for the state because she has the compassion to help others and because she uses her abilities to take difficult situations, or challenges, and succeed."

As MGTC's EAGLE delegate, Griffin will travel to Atlanta February 10-12 for the EAGLE Leadership Institute. The EAGLE Leadership Institute recognizes and honors student who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult education classes and programs.

Every EAGLE delegate is considered an ambassador and spokesperson for literacy serving local communities and the state by promoting lifelong learning. Since its inception in 1993, the EAGLE Award program has recognized more than 1,600 outstanding students across the state. In addition to serving as volunteer role models for family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers, EAGLE delegates serve as mentors, peer tutors, and recruiters of other students into local adult education programs.

The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) through its Office of Adult Education (OAE) sponsors the annual Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Leadership Institute.

MGTC Adult Education services, including test preparation and literacy training are offered at no cost in Dooly, Houston, Peach, and Pulaski Counties.
