MGTC Barbering Program Provides Haircuts for Huntington Middle School Students
Warner Robins- Five members of the Barbering program at Middle Georgia Technical College and Program Chair Leon Towles traveled to Huntington Middle School (HMS) in Warner Robins to provide free haircuts for young men during the last week before Winter break. The event was sponsored by the Miss HMS organization at the school and the MGTC Barbering program provided their services as a holiday gift to the young students.
The Barbering students provided over 55 haircuts to students who had gained parent's permission prior to the event.
HMS and MGTC forged this partnership through a current Barbering student and a chance meeting between Towles and HMS teacher Rodney Johnson. Johnson served as the model for Nannetta Tennyson at her state board exam recently. She is a night student in the Barbering program and is also a paraprofessional at Huntington. Once Johnson and Towles met, they began to discuss the prospects of a partnership. After handling all the details, the Barbering students were able to travel to the school and provide the hair cuts for the young students.
"With over 50 boys getting haircuts that day," said Johnson, "I can say this event was an absolute success. This was an awesome experience for our students and we appreciate working hand in hand in this partnership with MGTC."
Pictures from the Barbering/HMS event can be found on MGTC's Facebook page. To find out more about MGTC and the Barbering program, log on to www.middleGAtech.edu or call 478.988.6800. Winter quarter classes begin January 12. Apply now for the upcoming quarter.
