MGTC Air Conditioning Technology Program Granted Re-Accreditation
Warner Robins - Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robbins Georgia has been granted accreditation of its Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program by HVAC Excellence, the HVAC industry's credentialing agency. MGTC was originally granted a six-year accreditation in 2003 and was the first technical college HVAC program in the state of Georgia to achieve program accreditation.
Accreditation by HVAC Excellence is a third party accreditation that signifies that MGTC is dedicated to providing students with the best quality HVAC education possible. In order to grant accreditation, officials from HVAC Excellence reviewed documentation, made a site visit, and interviewed HVAC instructors and other College officials.
The onsite visiting team reviewed curriculum, faculty, student facilities, placement services, financial aid, advisory committee involvement, training facilities, and equipment & safety. In addition, Air Conditioning Technology (ACT) Program Chair Ken Spragins and ACT Instructor Johnny McDonald were interviewed and gave tours to the visiting team.
The ACT program at MGTC received several commendations from the accrediting team. In addition, the program instructors were commended for their professionalism and commitment to excellence in education.
"Spragins and McDonald have extensive formal training in the HVAC field and have numerous years of in-field experience," HVAC Excellence stated in a release. "They are an asset to the school, the community, the HVAC industry, and the students they serve."
By maintaining this accreditation, MGTC students can be more confident in the ACT program and employers can have the assurance that graduates of MGTC's program are properly trained.
The United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics forecast the HVACR industry will be one of the fastest growing occupations over the next decade. The HVACR industry today uses an increasingly sophisticated combination of machinery and computers to deliver comfort to building occupants. Those entering the field will be working on complex systems that require a unique combination of hands-on skills and problem-solving intelligence.
MGTC is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia and is committed to bettering the economic, educational, and community development of middle Georgia through quality workforce education and training opportunities. The College offers over 100 associate degree, diploma, and certificate options in the areas of aerospace, allied health, personal and public services, industrial technology, and information technology. The College also offers student activities, including clubs and organizations and club sports.
