Governor Perdue Meets with MGTC Child Development Center Students
Warner Robins - Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue was in town on official business, but some lucky kids got to meet up with Georgia's highest elected official. Children enrolled in Middle Georgia Technical College's(MGTC) new Child Development Center were personally introduced to the Governor and were able to chat with him about a subject near and dear to the hearts of both the kids and the Governor-baseball!
Ryan Thompson, 10, of Kathleen, was one of the students who got to meet with Governor Perdue. He was well aware of Perdue's little league baseball career and his love for the game.
When Ryan found out about the Governor's visit, he exclaimed, "Can I get his autograph?"
A sign in the Child Development Center signified the Governor's visit, causing much enthusiasm amongst the older children participating in the Childcare Center's summer program.
When asked about his excitement in meeting Georgia's leader, Ryan replied "He's our governor-he's like the head leader for our state! And, he was at the Little League World Series in 2007."
MGTC Child Development Center Director Michelle Cutler-Ervin escorted the students to the campus' main building to hear the Governor speak to the crowd at the Business and Housing Expo hosted at the Warner Robins campus by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). After a welcome from MGTC President Ivan Allen, Mike Beatty, commissioner for DCA, and Ron Jackson, commissioner for the Technical College System of Georgia also spoke to over 100 people in attendance. In addition, area state representatives Buddy Harden and Tony Sellier were present at the event.
The Expo at MGTC was one of six held across the state of Georgia June 12 and 13. The Governor and Commissioners Beatty and Jackson appeared at each one.
The mission of the CDC is to provide a safe, rich learning environment, deliberately designed to foster the learning of young children through exploration and discovery. Teachers in the Center all have degrees in Early Childhood and experience in fostering the development of young children.
Openings at the Child Development Center are available to children ages 3 through 12 of MGTC students, staff, and faculty, and members of the community. The Center also accepts subsidies and offers a before and after school program.
