MGTC's Wendy Toliver to Represent Georgia at Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference

Warner Robins - Wendy Toliver, a Business Administrative Technology student at Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins, will be representing the state of Georgia at the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California June 19-24.

Wendy earned her spot in the national competition by placing first in the Word Processing competition at the district and state levels. The state competition was held in April in Atlanta.

While in California, she will compete against the best of the best from technical colleges, two-year schools, and four-year colleges and universities from across the nation. Also, she will have the opportunity to take part in seminars and other conference activities, including a March of Dimes Mini Walk.

MGTC's adviser for PBL, Janet Kelly, will accompany Toliver to California.

"Wendy is a very talented student and the entire faculty and staff at MGTC is proud of her," said Kelly. "I know she will represent not only MGTC, but the state of Georgia to the best of her ability. This is a wonderful professional development and networking opportunity for her."

Not only is Wendy a winner in the competitive area of PBL, but she also serves as president for MGTC's Xi Alpha Nu chapter of PBL and has served as secretary during her time at MGTC. Additionally, she has volunteered her time to assist in conducting PBL's American Red Cross Blood Drives and pasta sales, which raise funds for the March of Dimes. She was also selected as MGTC's Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner, or Student of the Year, for 2009.

Wendy also had the privilege of introducing Skip Philips, CEO of Houston Healthcare, as the keynote speaker at MGTC's 2009 graduation ceremony. Wendy herself was also a graduate. She marched with honors and as a member of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).

"I am so excited to go to California for this competition," said Toliver. "The Phi Beta Lambda Club at MGTC has opened so many doors for me. I am grateful for this opportunity to showcase and sharpen the skills I have learned at MGTC as I prepare myself to enter the workforce."

Phi Beta Lambda, a business organization designed to give students the opportunity for professional growth and networking opportunities, is the post-secondary equivalent of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). PBL's National Awards Program recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. Nationwide, over 11,000 students are involved with PBL.
