Scholarships Awarded at Middle Georgia Technical College
Warner Robins - The Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation recently awarded scholarships to 20 students at the Spring Quarter Awards Day ceremony held in June 3. A total of $8,700 in cash awards were given to students to help with costs associated with furthering their education, including tuition, books, fees, and supplies.
The scholarship process is organized by the Financial Aid office at MGTC. After applications are submitted, a committee reviews the applicants to make award decisions. The scholarship selection committee for the Spring Quarter included Dann Webb, director of Admissions; Sonja Jenkins, registrar; Janet Kelly, Marketing and Public Relations coordinator; and Cheryl Stelk, director of Advancement.
Students selected for scholarships include Jennifer Ransom, a Marketing Management student from Unadilla, who received the Flint Energies Foundation Scholarship; Michelle Sekermestrovich, an Early Childhood Care and Education student from Hawkinsville, who received the Warner Robins Rotary Club Scholarship; Elizabeth Booker, a Medical Assisting student from Perry, who received the Medical Assisting department scholarship; and Jeffrey McDonald, an Air Conditioning Technology student from Hawkinsville, who received the Way Family Hawkinsville Scholarship.
The Billy G. Edenfield Scholarship was awarded to Gabriel Wright, an Industrial Systems Technology student from Fort Valley. In addition, Sharie Patterson, a Cosmetology student from Warner Robins, received the Cosmetology Department Scholarship and Wendy Toliver, a Business Administrative Technology student from Warner Robins, received the BB&T Phi Beta Lambda Scholarship. Ashley Golden, a Practical Nursing student from Bonaire received the Danyel B. Allen Scholarship. Billy Fortson and John Parrish, both of Bonaire and Automotive Technology students, were recipients of the Firestone Scholarship.
Ten $500 Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation scholarships were also awarded. Recipients of these awards include Deborah Amerson, a Dental Hygiene student from Reynolds; Montoia Combs, a Cosmetology student from Warner Robins; Mike Croskey, a Drafting Technology student from Perry; Wendy Davison, a Radiologic Technology student from Perry; Jacqueline Dugger, a Practical Nursing student form Perry; Samantha Elliott, an Accounting student from Perry; Christopher Helm, an Air Conditioning Technology student from Warner Robins; Ruth Johnson, an Aircraft Structural Technology student from Perry; Sheena Stewart, a Practical Nursing student from Centerville; and Josh Wagnon, a Cosmetology student from Cordele.
Recognition was also given to students who had received scholarships from other sources during the quarter. Jeremiah Blackwell, an Aviation Maintenance Technology student from Macon, received an $800 scholarship from the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA) Coastal Empire Chapter. Jeffrey Hoover, also in Aviation Maintenance from Warner Robins, received the James Villnave Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $600, awarded by the Northrop Rice Foundation.
In recognition of her selection as the 2009 Georgia Occupational Award of Excellence (GOAL) winner for Middle Georgia Technical College, Wendy Toliver was also awarded with a scholarship from Devry University in the amount of $26,500. This scholarship will allow her to continue her education and pursue a Bachelor's degree at Devry at no cost to her.
The Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the College and its students by supplementing available state resources with private funding to help further the College's mission of contributing to the economic and educational development of the community. A large portion of funds raised by the Foundation are earmarked specifically for student scholarships. All donations made to the MGTC Foundation are tax-deductible.

Gabriel Wright, an Industrial Systems Technology student from Fort Valley, accepts his certificate for the Billy G. Edenfield Scholarship from Julia Nell Shaw, dean of Instruction. Wright was also a member of the inaugural 2008-09 Titans basketball team at Middle Georgia Technical College.
