Nursing Students Pinned at Middle Georgia Technical College

Warner Robins - Graduating students in the Practical Nursing program at Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins were pinned at the recent Spring Quarter Awards Day ceremony held in the auditorium on campus. The pin signifies that the student has completed all coursework and clinical requirements for the Practical Nursing program and is eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), or "boards," to become a licensed practical nurse, or LPN.

Students who were pinned at the ceremony include Alison Reilly of Warner Robins; Sussan Goldsworthy of Warner Robins; Serena Shirley of Hawkinsville; Christine Morgan of Byron; Alina Kushnir of Centerville; Leslie Johnson of Macon; Deborah Boone of Hawkinsville; Shawanda Walker of Warner Robins; and Shannon Besselman of Byron.

Presenting the students with their pins were Practical Nursing Program Chair Anne Sartain. Practical Nursing faculty members Fredia Wimsatt, Linda Gerlock, Dee Mohlenkamp, Monecia Walton, and Janet Tanner were also present to show support for the graduates.

In addition to the pins, two students also received special awards. Shawanda Walker received the award for Best Clinician, which recognizes a student who demonstrates diligent work ethics, provides competent and compassionate care for clients, and promotes teamwork among peers. This recipient of this award must also demonstrate exemplary performance in the clinical setting and hold high the standards of the Practical Nursing field.

Deborah Boone was recognized for excelling in both the academic and clinical arenas with the Academic Award for the Practical Nursing graduates. The Academic award is presented to the student who has achieved and maintained the highest academic standards, including the highest grade point average in the graduating class.

The Practical Nursing program at Middle Georgia Technical College is a five quarter program. Students receive classroom and hands-on training in a clinical setting.
