MGTC Phi Beta Lambda Students Win Big at District Competition

Warner Robins - Students in the Phi Beta Lambda student organization at Middle Georgia Technical College recently participated in the South District competition at Columbus Technical College. The group of 14 students participating came home with 17 awards and will now head to the State Competition in Atlanta in April.

The students headed to Columbus to participate in various business skill competitions to showcase what they have learned in their program of study. A range of competitions are available for students from public speaking to cyber security to word processing.

Students participating in the District competition included Keith Bennett of Warner Robins, first place in Impromptu Speaking and first place in Project Management; Dale Tressler, of Warner Robins, first place in Parliamentary Procedure and first place in Business Decision Making; Kristian Manley, of Warner Robins, first place in Economic Analysis and Decision Making; Antonia Smith-Lindjeck of Montezuma, first place in Future Business Teacher and second place in Future Business Executive; Marty Anderson of Warner Robins, third place in Management Analysis and Decision Making; Kristie Kunkel of Warner Robins, first place in Management Analysis and Decision Making; Forrest Duston of Warner Robins, first place in Statistical Analysis; Jonathan Harris of Warner Robins, second place in Statistical Analysis; Richard "Vic" Vickery of Byron, first place in International Business; Tremayne Heckel of Perry, second place in Sports Management and third place in Business Presentation; and Rhonda Lester of Perry, first place in Financial Services.

Duston also teamed with Sam Waterman of Barnesville for fourth place in Battle of the Chapters event. By placing in the top five for Battle of the Chapters at District, the team is now eligible to compete in the event at State.

Other students attending the event were Heather Stinson and Kenchedia Williams. PBL Advisors Janet Kelly and Kelly Icard accompanied the students to the event.

The students are now preparing to travel to State Competition in Atlanta April 9-11. Students who place in the top three in written events and the top two in performance events will be eligible to travel to the National Phi Beta Lambda conference in Nashville, Tennessee in July. PBL is a national organization and is the post-secondary equivalent of Future Business Leaders of America, or FBLA. Phi Beta Lambda is dedicated to professional development, community service, and building leadership skills. Students from all program areas are invited to join the organization.
