MGTC Student Achieves Paralegal Certification
Warner Robins - Jana Alsobrook of Tifton, a Paralegal Studies graduate of Middle Georgia Technical College, successfully completed the two-day CLA/CP examination and is entitled to use the "CLA" or "CP" professional credential. The National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. made this announcement recently.
Alsobrook is among only 203 paralegals in Georgia, and 15,856 in the nation to achieve this goal. She moved to Georgia from South Florida where she worked in the legal field for over 10 years. She was employed as a paralegal in the Simpson Law firm for former Tift County Superior Court Judge Ralph F. Simpson and is currently employed full time as a Paralegal Analyst at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton. In addition to her Paralegal certification, she has completed requirements for an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal Studies at Middle Georgia Technical College, as well as her Advance Patient Account Representative Certification from the Georgia chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).
Established in 1976, the CLA/CP examination program is a voluntary professional credentialing program developed by the National Association of Legal Assistants and administered by a board composed of paralegals, members of the American Bar Association, and members of the field of education active in paralegal training. The CLA/CP program involves successful completion of a two-day comprehensive examination covering legal research, ethics, human relations, interviewing techniques, legal terminology, judgment and analytical ability, and substantive law.
The Paralegal Studies program at Middle Georgia Technical College is an Associate Degree program and is one of the newest programs at the College. Additionally, several short-term Technical Certificates of Credit are also offered in this program area.
