MGTC Triumphs Over GNTC Bobcats
Warner Robins - MGTC Titans' fans got a double dose of victories this past Saturday. Both the lady's and men's teams added a notch in the win column over the Georgia Northwestern Technical College Bobcats.
In the lady's match up, the Titans avenged an early season loss to the Lady Bobcats. In the earlier matchup, the Lady Bobcats beat the Lady Titans on a last second shot. This past Saturday, the Lady Titans came out poised to prevent a repeat. After a slow first half, shooting just 31 percent from the field and the Lady Bobcats shooting 38 percent, the teams were tied at 27 each.
When the second half started, the Lady Titans went on an 8-0 run to build their lead to nine points, the largest it would reach in the game. However, the Lady Bobcats would not go away quietly. Depending on the three-point shooting of GNTC's Lindsey Watts (14 points),the Lady Bobcats were able to come within four points. MGTC's Tershondria Brown prevented the Lady Titans from taking another loss by scoring 10 points in the second half. She had a total of 18 points. MGTC's Akira Locket led the Lady Titans with 21 points and Shequesha Goss powered her way in the paint with 14points. The Lady Titans shot an impressive 50% from the field in the second half and finished with a score of 68-64.
The Titans continued their undefeated run in conference play, capturing a sweep for MGTC Saturday afternoon. Leading the Titans to victory were Calyn Sanders and Markeas Carter with 16 points each, along with solid inside play from JJ Keyhea with 13 points and seven points from Kevis Jackson.
DC Feemster lead the Titans with 6 assists and 3 steals and Kevis Jackson dominated the boards with 9 rebounds. The Titans out rebounded the Bobcats 58 to 47. MGTC also forced the Bobcats to 18 turnovers and shot 40 percent from the field with a total of 54 defensive stops.
Titans Head Coach Bobby Brown stated, "The Bobcats had an off night. This team is capable of putting up big points and did so when we played them earlier this season. We were lucky tonight to catch them on a bad shooting night."
The Bobcats shot 21 percent from the three-point range, a team accustomed to shooting 35 to 45 percent.
The Titans are now 6-0 in conference play. With two more conference games remaining, the Titans are looking to finish the season with a Regular Season Championship and take the first-round tournament seed. The Titans will be at home this weekend to host the Chattahoochee Tech Golden Eagles at 4 p.m. for the women and 6 p.m. for the men. The game will be held at Ft. Valley State University. Admission is Free. Come out and support the Titans!
