MGTC Titans Looking to Remain Undefeated in Conference Play
Warner Robins - The Middle Georgia Technical College Titans are looking to extend their current winning streak to remain undefeated in the Technical College System of Georgia Athletic Association (TCSGAA) conference play. After a successful start to the year, the Titans currently hold a seven game winning streak.
In recent weeks, the Titans have defeated foes such as the Central Georgia Tech Cougars, the West Georgia Tech Golden Knights, and the Chattahoochee Technical College Golden Eagles. This weekend, the Georgia Northwestern Technical College Bobcats will travel to Fort Valley to face the Titans in a home game at the Fort Valley State University Physical Education complex. The game will be Saturday, February 5, with the lady's teams playing at 4 p.m. and the men's teams at 6 p.m.
This past weekend the Titans, as well as the Lady Titans picked up a win against the Southern Crescent Technical College Tigers from Griffin. The ladies were victorious by a heavy-sided score of 91-24.
After the lady's victory, the Tigers aimed to not make it easy for the Titans to score a victory. In the end though, the Titans won over the Tigers, 97-75. The Tigers came out on the court hungry for a win and to give the Titans their first loss in the TCSGAA. After a rough first half with the Tigers shooting 40 percent from the field, the Titans came back in the second half to redeem themselves. After returning to the court, poised to turn the game around, the Titans outscored the Tigers 64 to 43 in the second half.
MGTC's Calyn Sanders lead all players with a season high of 23 points shooting 10 of 12 from the field and 3 of 5 from behind the 3 point line. JJ Keyhea had 15 points and 8rebounds and Kevis Jackson had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Defensive pressure from the Titans forced the Tigers into 30 turnovers. Audley Feemster, Allen Whitehead, and JJ Keyhea all lead the Titans with 3steals each.
Bobby Brown, head coach for the Titans, stated, "Our bench really produced tonight. I have been looking for that kind of production from our bench all season long. If we get our bench to produce like this we will surely win the TCSGAA Title. We had several guys step up and play hard tonight and it showed."
In a rare Sunday Afternoon matchup, the Lady Titans were without one of their key players did their best against the CTC Golden Eagles. However, the Eagles proved to be too much for the Lady Titans and they were dealt a loss by a score of 74-44.
In the men's match up, the Titans quickly jumped out to an 18 to 4 lead. However, the Golden Eagles would not fly away scared on this Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles made some adjustments and went in at half time down by only one point to the Titans. The Titans came out after the half with a mission to jump out and build the lead back again.
The Titans went to their bread and butter and began feeding the ball down low to JJ Keyhea. Defensive stops allowed the Titans to build their lead back to 12. Key baskets by Rashaad Williams, Calyn Sanders, and Allen Whitehead allowed the Titans to keep the lead. JJ Keyhea lead the Titans with 25 points and 12 rebounds; Brandyn Little had 15 points; Markeas Carter had 12 points and 6 rebounds; Allen Whitehead and Kevis Jackson each had 9 points.
The final score of the weekend's last match up put MGTC at 92 and Atlanta's Chattahoochee Tech at 80.
The Titans are busy preparing for this weekend's home games at FVSU. Admission is free! Come out and support the Middle Georgia Technical College Titans!
