MGTC Titans Finish 8-0 in Conference Play

Warner Robins - Even though their win streak came to an end, the Middle Georgia Technical College Titans finished the season undefeated in conference play and are headed into the Technical College System of Georgia Athletic Association's (TCSGAA) tournament as the number one seed. The Tournament is scheduled for March 3-5 at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Titans final game of the regular season, determining the TCSGAA regular season champion, took place Feb. 19 against the Golden Knights of West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) in Carrollton. After a final score of 78-71, the MGTC squad came away victorious and poised to enter the tournament as the top seed.

After a slow start for the Titans, the MGTC team built their lead for a score of 37-28 at the half. In the second half, the Titans turned up the defensive pressure, building to a game-high lead of 21 points. Brandyn Little scored two consecutive three-pointers and baskets from Markeas Carter, DC Feemster, and JJ Keyhea helped build the lead.

The lead allowed Titans Head Coach Bobby Brown to go to the bench inserting Miran Murphy, Rashaad Williams, Cayln Sanders, Keith Graves, and Kevis Jackson in the game. Murphy would hit three of four free throws and Sanders knocked down a three-point basket to continue the 20-point lead against WGTC.

Determined not to go away without a fight, the Golden Knights began to press the Titans into turnovers that allowed them to cut the Titans' lead. With eight minutes left in the game, the Knights had reduced MGTC's lead to 10 points.

After tying the game at 69 points, Coach Brown called a timeout, after which the Titans employed their own press. MGTC's Allen Whitehead was able to steal the ball, and after a foul, sank two free-throws and put the Titans up by two. After another foul to JJ Keyhea, the Titans earned two more free-throws, pushing the lead to four points with under a minute left in the game.

After a shot attempt by the Knights, MGTC's Carter got the rebound and sealed the game. Keyhea led the Titans with 24 points while Little had 17 points and Whitehead earned 13 points. Feemster and Carter had 7 a piece, while Kevis Jackson earned five points. Whitehead also led with six assists, Graves with four, and Feemster with 3. Little led the team in rebounds with 9.

The MGTC Titans will now head to Chattanooga, Tennessee March 3-5 for the TCSGAA tournament at Tennessee Temple University.
