MGTC Phi Beta Lambda Members Shine at District Competitions

Warner Robins - Middle Georgia Technical College (MGTC) Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) members recently competed in the South District Leadership Conference held at Heart of Georgia Technical College in Dublin. Of the 19 MGTC students who competed, all students placed in their events, including 14 first place awards, six second place wins, and seven third place finishes. Overall, MGTC brought home a total of 31 awards.

By placing in one or both of their competitions, all of the MGTC PBL competitors are now eligible to attend the Georgia PBL State Leadership Conference in Atlanta in April. In addition to testing and performance event winners, the MGTC chapter placed third in the Battle of the Chapters PBL Knowledge competition, represented by Harry Harrell and Kristie Kunkel, both of Warner Robins.

First place winners were Brittany Brinson of Bonaire in Parliamentary Procedures; Dale Tressler of Warner Robins in Human Resource Management and Accounting for Professionals; Forrest Duston of Warner Robins in Macroeconomics; Rhonda Lester of Unadilla in Information Management; Sam Waterman of Barnesville in Contemporary Sports Issues and in Sports Management and Marketing; David Tressler of Warner Robins in Statistical Analysis; Kim Osborne of Hawkinsville in Business Communication; Nicole Montano of Warner Robins in Database Design and Application; Sharmaine Dixon of Hawkinsville in Future Business Teacher; Lawrence Hagan of Warner Robins in International Business; and Kunkel in Sales Presentation.

Additionally, the team of Chad Marshall of Perry, Darrell Collins of Hawkinsville, and Miranda Mosley of Gordon place first in Business Presentation.

MGTC student who took second place in their competition include Kristian Manley of Warner Robins in Accounting Principles; David Tressler in Contemporary Sports Issues; Desmond Lewis of Perry in Future Business Executive; Osborne in Parliamentary Procedures; Montano in Job Interview; and Hagan in Telecommunications.

Third place winners included Brinson in Impromptu Speaking; Manley in Future Business Executive; Lester in Business Communications; and Melinda Fenton of Macon in Justice Administration and Hospitality Management.

Students receiving fourth place were Chad Marshall in Marketing Concepts; Harrell in Impromptu Speaking; and Denizya Philpot of Montezuma in Business Law. Sharmaine Dixon also placed fifth in Client Services.

MGTC PBL Advisers Janet Kelly, director of Marketing and Public Relations, and Kelly Icard, Accounting instructor, and Pat Ivey, MGTC director of Career Services accompanied the students to the competition.

At the PBL State Leadership Conference, the MGTC will have the opportunity to test their skills once again for the chance to qualify for the national competition in Orlando, FL in June. All first, second, and third place state winners in written events and first and second place winners in performance events will be eligible to compete at the national level. Additionally, students will have the opportunity for networking and professional development during the conference.

PBL is the largest student leadership organization in the world. It not only benefits the students that participate in any of the PBL events and activities, it also brings leadership and teamwork skills together in a hands-on environment. PBL enhances the member's career portfolio and fosters the transition from school to work.

PBL is a national organization and is the post-secondary equivalent of Future Business Leaders of America, or FBLA. FBLA-PBL is the largest student leadership organization in the world.
