MGTC Foundation Awards Over $10,000 in Scholarships
The Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation recently awarded over $10,000 in scholarships to 28 students at the Winter Quarter Awards Day ceremony held in March at the MGTC Auditorium. Students will use the awards to help with costs associated with furthering their education, including tuition, books, fees, and supplies.
The scholarship process is organized by the MGTC Foundation. All students are invited to apply for scholarships during the early part of the quarter. After applications are submitted, a committee reviews the applicants to make award decisions.
Students selected for scholarships include Kristie Kunkel, a Business Administrative Technology student from Warner Robins, who received the BB&T Phi Beta Lambda Scholarship; Mary Yawn from Hawkinsville, received the Cosmetology Scholarship; Christina Cannon, an Early Childhood Care and Education student from Bonaire, received the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship; Kim Osborne, an Business Administrative Technology student from Hawkinsville, received the Way Family Scholarship; and Chantelle Peeples, an Radiologic Technology student from Warner Robins, received the Warner Robins Rotary Club scholarship.
Other scholarship recipients include Sierra Bryant of Warner Robins, who received the Medical Assisting Scholarship; Christina Floyd, a Cosmetology student from Hawkinsville, received the Way Brother's Memorial Scholarship; Cheri Smith, an Early Childhood Care and Education student from Warner Robins, received the Danyel B. Allen Scholarship; Rhonda Mincey of Perry, received the Thin Blue Line Criminal Justice Scholarship; and Barry Ingle, an Automotive Technology student from Kathleen, received the Firestone Scholarship.
The MGTC Foundation also awarded 15 Foundation scholarships. The Foundation is able to provide these scholarships through fundraisers such as the annual Golf Tournament, the Hooterville Hoedown Reverse Raffle, and the newest event, the Race for Education 5k/10k fun run event coming up in August.
Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation scholarships were awarded to Eddie Almond, a Machine Tool student from Vienna; Anna Collins, an Radiologic Technology student from Roberta; Kirt Collins, an Electronics Technology student from Macon; Cameron Cruickshank, an Aircraft Structural Technology student from Hawkinsville; Detron Hammond, an Computer Support Specialist student from Warner Robins; Brent Harper, a Aircraft Structural Technology student from Warner Robins; James Jones, an Electronics Fundamentals and Cisco Networking Specialist student from Warner Robins; Maria Long, a Surgical Technology student from Cochran; Kristian Manley, an Business Administrative Technology student from Warner Robins; Kaylee Medders, an Dental Hygiene student from Hampton; Brett Powell, a Electronics Technology student from Macon; Katerina Reynolds, an Early Childhood Care and Education student from Perry; Melissa Shaffer, an Early Childhood Care and Education student from Warner Robins; Billy Shaw, a Radiologic Technology student from Adrian; and Neeley Talbot, a Radiologic Technology student from Warner Robins.
In addition, the Flint Energies Scholarship was awarded to a Business Administrative Technology student and two Kullistan Jamison Scholarships were awarded to deserving students embarking on an educational career after completing courses within the MGTC Correctional programs.
The Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the College and its students by supplementing available state resources with private funding to help further the College's mission of contributing to the economic and educational development of the community. A large portion of funds raised by the Foundation are earmarked specifically for student scholarships. All donations made to the MGTC Foundation are tax-deductible.
