MGTC's Kristie Kunkel Receives National Scholarship

Kristie Kunkel, a student in the Business Administrative Technology program at Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins was recently presented with a $1,000 Phi Beta Lambda-National Technical Honor Society Scholarship at the Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference held in Orlando, Florida in June. She was the sole recipient of this scholarship for 2011.

Kunkel, who is from Warner Robins, was jointly nominated for the scholarship by her Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) adviser, Janet Kelly, and her National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) adviser, Dr. Morris Clarington. As a member of both organizations, she qualified for nomination and was selected based on her GPA and an essay application.

Spencer Behrend, 2010-2011 PBL National president, presented Kunkel with a certificate at the opening session of the PBL National Leadership Conference. Over 1,800 PBL students from across the nation were present at the event.

Kunkel is very active on the MGTC campus. In addition to PBL and NTHS, she is also a member of the Student Ambassadors and the Non-Traditional Student Association. She participated in the Mr. and Mrs. MGTC pageant and volunteers at various events. She graduated in June with a diploma in Business Administrative Technology and will begin working toward her associate degree in the upcoming fall semester.

PBL is a national organization and is the post-secondary equivalent of Future Business Leaders of America, or FBLA. Phi Beta Lambda dedicated to professional development, community service, and building leadership skills. Students from all program areas are invited to join the organization.

NTHS is a national honor society recognizing the work of students enrolled in technical education. As a member of NTHS, students must possess the seven characteristic principles of the organization which are knowledge, skill, honesty, service, responsibility, citizenship, and leadership. The Society has recognized outstanding student achievement in workforce education since 1984. Over 1,500 schools and colleges throughout the U.S. and its territories are affiliated with NTHS. Induction into NTHS is a benchmark-the highest award for excellence in the workforce education in America.
