Middle Georgia Tech Students Wire Habitat House

During the Spring Quarter, students in the Industrial Systems Technology program at Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins assisted Houston County Habitat for Humanity with wiring the organization's newest house on Orchard Way. The students, along with Industrial Systems Program Chair Antonio Shelley, completed all the electrical work for the home.

All of the students were enrolled in the Industrial Wiring class during the Spring quarter. Assisting Habitat for Humanity allowed the students to gain additional hands-on, practical work, including studying the plan and then actually pulling wire, installing boxes and connecting switches and outlets. Shelley also helped the students read the plans and correctly connect the wires.

"I really appreciate the opportunity to get these guys out on a real electrical project," said Shelley. "This is so much better than working in the classroom on a mock up. No matter how good the plan, there is always something that won't work and they get to do some problem solving; I love it! And besides that, we are helping a deserving family build their new home."

Students who participated in the project include Bryant Lowe, Adam Jenkins, Kevin Pelt, Kourtney Hemphill, Reiko Bussell, Raymond Ochoa, Tony Maturana, Robert Richey, Craig Harak, Curtis Holmes, Courtney Williams, David Hull, Jarico Jones, Mozell Wright, Kerry Daniel, J.W. Taylor, Otis Boutwell, Maurice Smith, Mario Barnes, Michael Inglett, Jonathan Weeks, and Jack Massey.

MGTC's Fall Semester will begin August 23. New students can apply and register now for the upcoming term. For more information about the Industrial Systems program or applying to MGTC, log on to www.middlegatech.edu or find MGTC on Facebook and Twitter.
