MGTC Cosmetology to Participate in Strands for the Cure
MGTC has partnered with Susan G. Komen Central Georgia to go pink for October, which is breast cancer awareness month. The Middle Georgia Technical College Cosmetology program is a partner salon for Strands for the Cure for 2011 and will be applying both permanent and temporary pink streaks for customers.
This opportunity allows the students to participate in a community service project and also gives the MGTC family the opportunity to show support for those affected by breast cancer. Under instructor supervision, students will be applying pink streaks, or clip ins, to customers' hair. Each streak, or clip in, costs $10. All proceeds will go directly to Susan G. Komen Central Georgia.
"The students initiated this idea and we felt this would be a tremendous opportunity, not only for the College, but also for each individual student to give back and support a worthy cause," said Jolie Martin, MGTC Cosmetology program chair. "All of our day and evening students are excited to be able to do this. And, thanks to donations from Sally Beauty Supply in Warner Robins and Elegant Beauty Supply in Perry, we are able to give the full amount to the Komen Foundation by cutting our costs."
Salon hours are available during the day and evening. Daytime appointments can be made on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday from 9 am to 1 pm. Evening appointments can be made for Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm. Clients should call 478-988-6913 to make an appointment.
