Middle Georgia Technical College Ranked as the 6th Fastest Growing Community College in the Nation

Warner Robins - According to the November 28th edition of Community College Week Magazine, Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins has been ranked as the 6th fastest growing community college in the nation by the national publication. This ranking is among colleges with enrollments of 2,500 to 4,999. MGTC is the highest ranked Georgia institution on the list.

In the issue"s cover story, entitled Downward Trend, author Paul Bradley describes the nationwide trend of dipping college enrollments after years of growth. However, date collected for the 2009 and 2010 fiscal years shows that enrollment MGTC is bucking that trend. The rankings associated with the article show the top 50 colleges across the nation whose enrollments have continued to climb. Community College Week based their rankings on US Department of Education Data (IPEDS).

The article states that skyrocketing enrollment trends over the past few years can be credited to the downward spiraling economy and job loss, which prompts students to pursue educational avenues for retraining for new career opportunities. Additionally, high school students have recently been more likely to choose to attend community colleges, rather than try to cover the costs of four-year universities.

Middle Georgia Technical College"s enrollments has climbed steadily over the past five years from just over 2,350 students in Fall Quarter 2005, to a record 4,206 students in Fall Quarter 2010. In addition to maintaining positive growth, during FY 2011, MGTC was also the first Technical College in the state to graduate over 2,000 students in a single fiscal year.
