Two MGTC Basketball Players Named GCAA Players of the Week

Warner Robins - Ashley West and Dess Culpepper, both basketball players at Middle Georgia Technical College in Warner Robins, were named Athletes of the Week by the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) for the week of January 23.

West joined the Lady Titans in 2011 and had a season high and game high performance against Brewton Parker"s JV team with 20 points. Additionally, she had a season high of 14 rebounds against the Titans of Albany Technical College.

The Business Administrative Technology student earned the GCAA Player of the Week award by averaging 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 steals per game this past week. West is the Player of the Week for GCAA Women"s Division 3.

Dess Culpepper earned the Men"s Division 3 GCAA Player of the Week Award. The MGTC Titan put up his best performance this season versus Southern Crescent Technical College of Griffin. During the January 17 match up, Culpepper scored a season and game high 26 points against the SCTC Tigers.

Culpepper, an Early Childhood Care and Education student, shot 10 of 14 from the field and was 6 of 8 from behind the 3-point arc. On January 20, he followed up his earlier performance by leading the Titans with 18 points in the second conference game against SCTC. He also had three steals and six rebounds in Friday night"s game.

The Titans are currently first in conference standings. They will take on Covenant College JV in Lookout Mountain at 4 pm this Saturday, January 28. The Lady Titans will be in action again on February 4 in a conference match-up against the Golden Knights of West Georgia Technical College.

Bobby Brown serves at the head coach for the Titans and the Lady Titans are lead by Head Coach Lawanda Shelley-Brown.
