MGTC hosts Open House for High School Seniors
March 12, 2007
By Shaunte Middlebrooks, WRHS Student and Marketing Intern
On Thursday March 8, MGTC hosted its 5th Annual Senior Day for High School Seniors from Dooly, Houston, Peach, and Pulaski Counties. The day began with the seniors touring the MGTC campus and getting hands on experience in various programs. Through the tour, students met with instructors who explained the ins and outs of their specific program. Students were given the opportunity to see different career options that might have been unaware to them. Students also acquired information concerning the admission process and financial aid.
According to Latoya Stackhouse, recruiter for MGTC, students tour the programs and enjoy going into the classrooms. She stated that “it is important to keep the students engaged and MGTC working together as a group makes this event a success.” Julie Rinck, a Marketing Management student a MGTC, assisted with Senior Day efforts and expressed the importance she saw in Thursday’s event. “The event presented a good opportunity for seniors to see what MGTC has to offer. When I first graduated high school, I had to do a lot of research to open my eyes to what I wanted to do. This event gives students the opportunity to open their eyes to something they may not have considered.”
Feedback was also received from the students on what they gained from the experience. Naqua Gentry, a senior at Warner Robins High School, takes computer repair classes at Houston County Career and Technology Center. He is part of the Dual Enrollment program through MGTC, which gives him both high school and college credit. He plans to enroll at MGTC in October 2007, and upon enrollment, he will have a jump start on his college education. His instructor at the Houston County Career and Technology Center, Ms. Alicia Burroughs, recommended that Gentry attend MGTC for his college education. Gentry believes that MGTC “is good facility that accommodates a wide variety of interest.”
