MGTC and FVSU sign agreement for business administration, computer science degree programs
May 30, 2007
Fort Valley State University and Middle Georgia Technical College signed agreements Wednesday, May 30, that will make it easier for MGTC students to work toward bachelor’s degrees at FVSU by eliminating the need to retake classes.
“This will help us to increase the number of business and technical credentialed professionals in the Middle Georgia region by giving greater access to students who aspire to pursue careers in these specialized fields,” said Dr. Daniel K. Wims, FVSU executive vice president and vice president for academic affairs.
According to the agreements, MGTC students who earn associate degrees in accounting, marketing management, and management and supervisory development can continue their education at FVSU toward a bachelor’s degree in business administration. MGTC students who earn an associate degree in computer information systems can work toward an FVSU bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer information systems.
Wims signed the agreements with Robert Beaver, MGTC vice president for academic affairs.
“We’re very excited about continuing our partnership with Fort Valley State University,” Beaver said. “These are now the second and third program articulation agreements we have consummated. These along with the one for early childhood education students will give our students more opportunities. We look forward to increasing our partnership in the future.”
In March FVSU and MGTC signed an agreement allowing MGTC education students to further their academic careers in FVSU’s middle grades education program.
These agreements were made possible by the Memorandum of Understanding that FVSU President Larry E. Rivers signed with MGTC President Ivan Allen on Dec. 1, 2006. FVSU signed a similar memorandum of understanding with Central Georgia Technical College in Macon in March.
“We are growing more excited by the day about our relationships with area technical colleges,” Wims said.
