MGTC Goal Coordinator Named
Janet Kelly, MGTC GOAL CoordinatorDr. Ivan Allen, president of Middle Georgia Technical College, has announced that Janet Kelly, Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator for the College, will coordinate the 2008 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) program.
GOAL, a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia, honors excellence among the state΄s technical college students.
Kelly, who is a resident of Vienna, recently accepted her position at Middle Georgia Tech in early January. She brings six years of experience with her as Marketing Coordinator at South Georgia Technical College in Americus.
According to Kelly, the GOAL program is the first statewide program in the nation designed to recognize leadership and achievement by students on technical college campuses.
“The GOAL program seeks to spotlight our best students while emphasizing the importance of technical education in our modern workforce,“ said Kelly. “The experience of participating in the process also gives students a sense of pride and accomplishment in the work they are doing to further their education.“
As the GOAL coordinator, Kelly will work with college and community officials to choose a Middle Georgia Technical College student to represent the college in the state GOAL competition in Atlanta during GOAL Week, May 20-23.
During GOAL week, MGTC΄s GOAL winner will compete against local winners from the other 32 technical colleges across the state, as well as the four Board of Regents colleges with technical education divisions. One student will be selected as the state GOAL winner and will serve as an ambassador for technical education in Georgia.
The title of state GOAL winner earns the student recognition as the technical college student of the year and the responsibility of relaying the positive message about technical education to Georgia΄s citizens. To make that travel easier, the winner will also receive a new car from Chevrolet, the statewide corporate sponsor of the GOAL program. Last year's MGTC GOAL winner was Theresa Watkins, an Administrative Office Technology student from Warner Robins.
