MGTC Foundation Receives $50,500 from Healthcare Georgia Foundation

The Healthcare Georgia Foundation recently awarded a grant in the amount of $50,500 to the Middle Georgia Technical College (MGTC) Foundation. Cheryl Stelk, director of College Advancement, accepted the award on behalf of the MGTC Foundation.

This grant will make it possible for Middle Georgia Technical College to offer health literacy classes for a 12-month period at the Rozar Park Community Center as part of their Adult Education Program in Perry. Morning and evening health literacy classes will be available. These classes are designed to help individuals read, understand, and act on health information.

MGTC, the city of Perry, the Houston County Joint Certified Literate Community Program (CLCP), the Health Literacy Task Force, and the Rozar Park Community Center have partnered to make these classes and workshops available to the community. In addition to health literacy classes, MGTC also offers adult education classes, GED Preparation, after school tutoring, as well as other services at the Rozar Park Community Center. To find out more about the services offered in Perry, call 478.919.6056 or 478.929.6789.

The Middle Georgia Technical College Health Literacy Initiative is funded in part by a grant from Healthcare Georgia Foundation. Created in 1999 as an independent, private foundation, the Foundation’s mission is to advance the health of all Georgians and to expand access to affordable, quality healthcare for underserved individuals and communities.

The Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the College and supplementing available state resources with private funding to help further the College’s mission of contributing to the economic and educational development of the community.  All donations made to the MGTC Foundation are tax-deductible. For more information on the MGTC Foundation, contact Cheryl Stelk at 478.988.6800 ext. 7201.
