MGTC΄s Dantever Hicks Among 37 Adult Learners Honored by The Technical College System of Georgia
The Technical College System of Georgia΄s Office of Adult Education recognized 37 men and women for their achievement in adult education during a luncheon held recently at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta. Among the honorees was Dantever Hicks, a Middle Georgia Technical College Adult Education student in Peach County.
The exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) program honored the 37 as delegates to the state Office of Adult Education΄s Leadership Institute, which was held in Atlanta February 13-15. Joi King, lead adult education instructor in Peach County, and Brenda Brown, vice president of Adult Education at MGTC, accompanied Hicks to Atlanta.
The EAGLE delegates were chosen from among the more than 84,000 adult learners in the state who are working to achieve their GEDs. They were nominated by their instructors and each represents a technical college or local school system that provides adult education programs. They earned their statewide recognition based on their hard work to obtain their GED and through their excellent character, positive attitude, superb classroom attendance, and outstanding leadership.
Georgia΄s 2008 EAGLE delegates were presented their award at the close of the luncheon by Ron Jackson, Commissioner for the Technical College System of Georgia. Jackson noted that each is considered an ambassador and spokesperson for Georgia’s adult education GED program.
“These men and women are role models for others who want to obtain their GED,“ said Jackson. “I take great pride in knowing that each delegate demonstrates leadership qualities wherever they are—their homes, communities, workplaces, and most assuredly, in their classrooms.“
Middle Georgia Technical College offers adult education programs in Dooly, Houston, Peach, and Pulaski counties.
